The characteristics of an Intervis® threaded self-tapping socket

Introduction to the Intervis® Self-Tapping Socket

‍ In soft and medium-hard materials, such as light alloys, plastics, and compressed woods, your threads can easily be damaged by wear due to repeated stresses or excessive, too frequent tightening of screws, which can cause threads to be pulled out, making them unusable.

To improve the strength and maintenance of your assemblies, we have designed an innovative self-tapping socket: The Intervis® self-tapping socket.

Within the group, we developed the Intervis® brand, which is a threaded slotted insert whose purpose is to reinforce the solidity of your assemblies while reducing installation time.

This threaded self-tapping socket acts like a tap, allowing you to screw it directly into a smooth hole without requiring pre-tapping since these self-tapping sockets themselves form their threads into the material to ensure a sturdy and secure attachment!

‍ We recommend the use of Self-Tapping Sockets Intervis in aluminum fasteners, as their surface treatment eliminates the risk of corrosion between the two materials, which is convenient for fasteners exposed to humid conditions.

An intervis self-tapping socket offers several advantages:

  • Perfect Anchoring Without the Need for Pre-Tapping
  • An absence of play between the spacer and the part
  • Very High Resistance to Tearing
  • Reduced thread wear
  • Increased safety during use

At Gardette Industries, different ranges of self-tapping sockets Intervis Are available, made of various materials such as Crude Steel (SCTA), Zinc-plated Steel without chrome 6 (SCT), Brass or Stainless Steel.

‍ This diversity of materials allows self-tapping threaded sockets to be inserted into many different materials such as: ‍

  • Aluminum and aluminum alloys
  • Brass, bronze, cast iron
  • Magnesium alloys
  • Duroplast and thermoplastics

In short, in almost all materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals with low shear strength.

Which intervis self-tapping socket to choose?

Threaded sockets Intervis are equipped with cutting slots. When inserted into a hole, they create their own threads (Hence the term self-tapping threaded insert).

This ensures a secure and durable anchoring in the mounting material. Thanks to the thread of the Intervis threaded insert, it is permanently anchored in the workpiece, which will allow your assembly greater resistance to shocks and vibrations.

Our Threaded Inserts Intervis are available in 3 different surface treatments:

  • Self-tapping socket interscrew in galvanized steel, for very high resistance to major assembly requirements and good corrosion resistance.
  • Self-tapping socket made of stainless steel (made of 1.4105 and 1.4305 stainless steel), for installations exposed to the elements.
  • Self-tapping socket interscrew in brass, for assemblies requiring good conductivity.

And available in 3 versions

Reminder of the advantages of intervis threaded self-tapping sockets

  1. Its recovery: With 30% to 40% coverage, the socket Threaded Intervis offers almost maximum pull-out resistance, especially in light alloy parts.
  2. Pull-out resistance: Threaded sockets Intervis Are very robust, offering pull-out resistance even greater than the yield strength of an 8.8 screw in light metal applications.
  3. Minimizing weight and space: Intervis threaded sockets allow significant weight and space savings, allowing for reduced screw dimensions, which saves material, space, and weight while maintaining high performance requirements.

Intervis® Self-Tapping Socket

Threaded insert - Self-tapping socket - Intervis

INTERVIS®, made of steel, brass or stainless steel, is a metal socket with standardized tapping and an appropriate external thread. It has a truncation and a slit with sharp edges.

Advantages:

  • No Need for Pre-Tapping
  • Perfect anchoring of the INTERVIS®, absence of play between it and the receiving room
  • Increased safety in use: very high resistance to tearing
  • Eliminating tap wear
