The finishing touch : The final touch that makes all the difference

The manufacture of keys or parts to drawing is not limited to the manufacturing phase. An essential stage completes the process: finishing. This is a set of techniques and treatments applied to parts to give them the characteristics required for their final use. In this article, we explore the different stages of finishing.

‍Definition ofcompletion

Finishing is a crucial stage in the manufacturing process of a part. It consists in performing the final machining operations to give the part its final shape and dimensions, so that it can become functional or move on to the next stage of production.

Finishing also enables us to fine-tune the tolerances and surface finish of the part, using techniques such as chamfering or drilling. At Gardette, we use state-of-the-art machine tools to finish our parts with precision and efficiency.

Finishing at Gardette Industries

At Gardette, the first function consists of mechanical work to give the part the desired shape.
To achieve this, we use a variety of machines.

‍Flow and cubing operations‍

  • Milling machines for various operations: Milling machines are used to cut workpieces, and to make cubes, shoulders, chamfers and slopes on workpieces.
  • Cutting and cubing: Cutting consists in cutting parts to the desired dimensions, while cubing enables us to create flat surfaces on parts to obtain precise tolerances on perpendicularity between faces.

Work on parts with machining centers
‍Functionalities
of machining centers: Machining centers are automated machine tools enabling various operations such as drilling, tapping, milling and chamfering with high precision.
Operation details:

  • Drilling and tapping: create precise holes and threads in workpieces.
  • Milling: removal of material to create flat surfaces or specific shapes.
  • Chamfering: creation of bevels on part edges.

Using grinding machines
‍Grinding
machine operation: grinding machines with abrasive wheels are used to polish and smooth the surfaces of workpieces, offering precise tolerance and a high-quality finish.

Types of grinding machines at Gardette

  • Surface grinders: for single-surface grinding of workpieces.
  • Double-sided grinding machines: for simultaneous grinding of two opposite surfaces of workpieces, ensuring perfect flatness.

Part customization and automation

  • Marking of parts: We carry out marking operations on your parts using a micropercussion marking machine, offering permanent and reliable part personalization.
  • Automation of the production process: We have two robotized cells for loading and unloading machining centers, optimizing production efficiency.

Processing at Gardette Industries

The second function consists of heat and surface treatment, to obtain the metallurgical structure, aesthetic appearance or protection required for the part.

At Gardette, we have a furnace that enables us to carry out annealing heat treatment.

In addition, we are able to provide different types of heat and surface treatments to suit our customers' specific requirements. If the customer requires a particular heat or surface treatment such as quenching, tempering, zinc plating, burnishing, painting... We have trusted partners with whom we work regularly to offer our customers a complete service and meet their specific needs.

In conclusion, finishing is an essential stage in the manufacture of parts, involving mechanical operations and treatments. At Gardette Industries, we use advanced machine tools to ensure precise, efficient finishing to meet the specific needs of our customers.
