What is a net insert?

A thread insert, also known as a helicoil, is an essential device for professionals. It is used to repair or reinforce damaged or worn threads in materials such as metal or plastic. It acts directly on the strength of the thread and your assembly, compressing perfectly when installed in the receiving threads of the tapped part.

Thread inserts are used to create stronger threads in new materials. This tool is extremely useful in mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, aeronautics and many other fields requiring the assembly of mechanical parts.

The helicoil thread insert is a valuable device available in 304 stainless steel. This spring-loaded threaded insert is inserted into a previously tapped hole, forming an internal thread.

With its larger external diameter than the original hole, it effectively reinforces the thread. Once in place, the thread insert provides a new, wear-resistant thread capable of accommodating a bolt or screw.

They are most often used in materials with low shear strength, such as aluminum or aluminum-magnesium alloys.

The helicoil net insert is also used to :

  • Repair damaged threads quickly and easily
  • Reinforce threaded holes in delicate materials
  • Benefit from optimum resistance to corrosion and extreme temperatures.

The helicoil thread insert is available in a variety of threads (metric, UNC, UNF, BSF), which can be purchased in different kits.

In the Gardette Industries catalog, you'll find a selection of selection of standard thread inserts and fine fine-pitch thread inserts.

Why use a mesh insert?

  • To increase the strength of its assemblies: stainless steel with a tensile strength of 1400N/mm².
  • To save damaged or torn threads
  • To obtain a good surface finish in materials that are difficult to tap
  • For a better distribution of forces thanks to its flexibility
  • To be compatible with other manufacturers using the DIN 8140 & DIN 65536 standard, LN 9590, LN 9499, NASM 21209
  • And protect assemblies against corrosion and wear

All our net inserts are available in

  • A wide selection of thread diameters, enabling use in a variety of thread repair applications.
  • Various thread types, such as metric threads with standard and fine pitch, as well as UNC, UNF, UNEF and UNS threads.
  • Several materials are available to reinforce threads, including stainless steel and bronze.

How do I insert a thread insert?

Installing a net insert is both simple and economical, since all you need to do is follow a few basic rules. We offer a wide range of manual and automatic net installation tools for small, medium and large production runs.

First step: drilling the pilot hole

For drilling, don't hesitate to use a high-quality standard twist drill. Before starting, remember to chamfer at 90° and carefully deburr the surface for optimum preparation.

Second step: tapping

To create the thread for the thread insert, we recommend the use of special taps. specific taps to suit the system and thread.

Thanks to our upsetting tapping system, you can obtain a perfectly clean, chip-free thread.

Last step: installing the net insert

Installation can be carried out using a manual installation tool, or an automatic installation tool.

To remove your thread inserts, we have a dedicated tool for removing thread inserts.
