The helicoil thread insert and its important role in the world of mechanics

An inset net, commonly known as a helicoilis an indispensable component for the majority of professionals who use screw connections. Its usefulness lies in repairing or reinforcing damaged or worn threads, in a multitude of materials such as metal or plastic.

When installed in the receiving threads of the tapped part, helicoil acts directly on the shear strength. During installation, thehelicoil compresses under the tensile force of the screw, reinforcing and holding your assembly firmly.

The helicoil thread insert is available in 304 stainless steel and takes the form of a spring inserted into a previously tapped hole, forming a new internal thread.

With an external diameter greater than that of the original hole, it reinforces the thread. Once in place, the helicoil insert provides a new, wear-resistant thread capable of accommodating a bolt or screw.

It is mainly used in materials with low shear strength, such as aluminum or aluminum-magnesium alloys.

In particular, a net insert allows :

  • Repair damaged threads quickly and easily.
  • Reinforce threaded holes in delicate materials.
  • Optimum resistance to corrosion and extreme temperatures.

Available in a variety of threads (metric, UNC, UNF, BSF), helicoil thread inserts are offered in the form of kitsincluding diameter options and various assortments.

Visit Gardette Industries catalog for a selection of standard and fine-pitch thread inserts.

How to fit a net insert?

Installing a helicoil net insert is both simple and economical, but it does require net insert installation tools and a few basic rules.

  • First step : drilling the pilot hole

The use of a high-quality standard twist drill is recommended for drilling. Before starting, it is advisable to chamfer at 90° and carefully clean the surface for optimum preparation.

  • Second step: tapping

To create the threaded insert, the use of specific tapsadapted to the system and thread. Thanks to our upsetting tapping system, you get a perfectly clean, chip-free thread.

  • Last step: installing the net insert

Installation can be carried out using a manual installation tool or an automatic installation tool.

For the removal of your helicoil, we provide a tool dedicated to the extraction offor removing thread inserts.

To guarantee controlled installation, whether for small, medium or large-scale production, we provide you with a wide range of manual and automatic tools dedicated to the installation of your helicoils.

Which mesh installation tools should I use?

In addition to the appropriate net inserts, you'll need net installation tools. To ensure high-quality installation and results, we recommend using only tools specifically designed for the job.

In our range of net installation tools, you'll find two series of products that provide everything you need to install your nets.

To prepare your fillets for insertion, you will find conical cutters and twist drills.

The use of a tenon breaker is a special installation tool with which you can break the tenon of your net if necessary.

Each of our thread inserts can be ordered individually.
Simply select the assembly tool that suits you best.
