Cylindrical pins

What is a pin?

Pins are cylindrical fasteners used primarily to join and position two or more parts together, either temporarily or permanently.

A pin can be smooth, slotted, threaded, splined, ground, etc...

The ingenious design of a cylindrical pin allows it to be customized with chamfered or domed ends, to perfectly match your application project.

The cylindrical pin is often used in fields requiring regular assembly and disassembly, such as industrial machinery, laboratory equipment and the automotive industry.

At Gardette Industries, we' ve been designing and manufacturing pins for over 100 years.

Thanks to our machining capacity and know-how, we now offer one of the most complete ranges of pins:

If you're still not sure which pin to choose, don't panic, our teams will help you determine the optimum pin for your needs.

A reminder of how a pin works

The cylindrical pin is designed to withstand relatively low shear forces.
A pin is used when :

  • Securing one part to another
  • Position one part in relation to another
  • Serve as an axis within an assembly
  • Serve as a safety component in an assembly

How does Gardette Industries manufacture its pins?

Various state-of-the-art techniques and machines are used to manufacture cylindrical pins.

In this section, we present the exclusive manufacturing process used by Gardette Industries and the P3G Group.

A machine specially designed for the manufacture of our cylindrical pins is responsible for shaping each part. It all starts with an iron bar, using the material that best suits your needs to produce your stainless steel, brass, steel, aluminum, etc. pins.

Once the raw material has been fed into the machine, whether in bar or drawn steel form, the real process of manufacturing the cylindrical pin begins. The machine cuts the bar with absolute precision, to the exact dimensions required. Each cylindrical pin is carefully cut to fit your specific project.

After this crucial step, each part is meticulously cleaned and oiled. This step is essential as it facilitates friction between the part and the machine, ensuring smooth, trouble-free operation. Lubrication also helps to prolong the life of each cylindrical pin, ensuring long-term strength and reliability.

At Gardette, we understand the importance of every detail in the manufacture of high-quality cylindrical pins. That's why we use specially designed machinery and rigorous procedures to ensure that every cylindrical pin we produce meets your exacting requirements.

Depending on the type of cylindrical pin required, chamfers and other special features can be added using other specialized machining and screw-cutting equipment.

In addition, depending on its application, the cylindrical pin can also undergo surface treatments if required.

The various cylindrical pins we manufacture

For a perfect fastening, it is important to choose the right cylindrical pin. In fact, there are different types of cylindrical pins:

The iso 8734 din 6325 cylindrical pin

The iso 8734 cylindrical pin is a cylindrical fastener manufactured to German standard iso 8734. This standard defines the dimensions, shape and tolerances of the cylindrical pin.

The iso 8734 cylindrical pin is generally made from hardened steel, giving it high breaking strength. It is used in a variety of applications, including :

  • Assembly of mechanical parts
  • Part positioning
  • Preventing relative movements between parts

Unlike some pins, the iso 8734 cylindrical pin has a smooth surface, which means that with its very tight adjustment tolerance, once installed in the housing, it cannot move.

The iso 8734 cylindrical pin is available in a variety of sizes, diameters and lengths. Here are a few examples of applications for the iso 8734 cylindrical pin:

  • Fasten rotating mechanical parts, such as bearings or shafts
  • Positioning parts such as bushings or screws
  • Prevent relative movements between parts, such as seals or sealing rings.

The iso 2338 cylindrical pin

The iso 2338 cylindrical pin is a cylindrical fastener manufactured to the international standard iso 2338.

This standard defines the dimensions, shape and tolerances of cylindrical pins.

The iso 2338 cylindrical pin is generally made from hardened steel, giving it high breaking strength.

It is used in a variety of applications, including :

  • Assembly of mechanical parts
  • Part positioning
  • Preventing relative movements between parts

Assembly of an iso 8734 - iso 2338 cylindrical pin

The installation of an iso 8734 din 6325 cylindrical pin and an iso 2338 cylindrical pin requires no special knowledge or skills, and is easy to install, preserving the integrity of the shaft.

Unlike some pins, iso 2338 cylindrical pins have a smooth surface, which means that with their very tight adjustment tolerance, once installed in the housing, they cannot move.

iso 2338 and iso 8734 cylindrical pins are available in a variety of sizes, diameters and lengths.

Here are a few examples of applications for an iso 2338 cylindrical pin and an iso 8734 cylindrical pin:

  • Fasten rotating mechanical parts, such as bearings or shafts
  • Positioning parts such as bushings or screws
  • Prevent relative movements between parts, such as seals or sealing rings
