Features of Intervis® threaded self-tapping sockets

Introduction to the Intervis® self-tapping socket

‍In soft and medium-hard materials, such as light alloys, plastics and compressed woods, your threads can easily be damaged by wear due to repeated stresses or excessive, too-frequent tightening of screws, which can cause the threads to pull out, rendering the latter unusable.

To improve the strength and hold of your assemblies, we have designed an innovative self-tapping socket: The Intervis® self-tapping socket.

Within the Group, we have developed the Intervis® brand, which is a slotted threaded insert designed to reinforce the strength of your assemblies while reducing installation time.

This threaded self-tapping socket acts like a tap, allowing you to screw it directly into a smooth hole without the need for pre-tapping, since these self-tapping sockets themselves form their threads in the material to ensure a strong, secure hold!

‍We recommend the use of intervis self-tapping sockets in aluminum fasteners, as their surface treatment eliminates the risk of corrosion between the two materials, which is convenient for fasteners exposed to wet conditions.

An intervis self-tapping socket offers several advantages:

  • Perfect anchoring without pre-tapping
  • No play between spacer and part
  • Extremely high tensile strength
  • Reduced thread wear
  • Increased safety in use

Gardette Industries offers a wide range of intervis self-tapping sockets, made from a variety of materials such as Crude Steel (SCTA), Chromium 6-free Zinc-plated Hardened Steel (SCT), Brass or Stainless Steel.

‍This diversity of materials allows self-tapping threaded bushes to be inserted into many different materials such as:‍

  • Aluminium and aluminium alloys
  • Brass, bronze, cast iron
  • Magnesium alloys
  • Duroplast and thermoplastics

In short, in virtually all materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals with low shear strength.

Which intervis self-tapping socket to choose?

Intervis threaded bushes feature cutting slots. When inserted into a hole, they create their own thread(hence the term self-tapping threaded insert).

This guarantees secure and durable anchoring in the mounting material. The Intervis threaded insert is permanently anchored in the workpiece, giving your assembly greater resistance to shock and vibration.

Our intervis threaded inserts are available in 3 different surface treatments:

  • Self-tapping intervis socket in galvanized steel, for high resistance to demanding assembly requirements and good corrosion resistance.
  • Stainless-steel intervis self-tapping socket (in stainless steel 1.4105 and 1.4305), for assemblies exposed to the elements.
  • Brass intervis self-tapping socket for assemblies requiring good conductivity.

And available in 3 versions

The advantages of intervis self-tapping threaded bushings

  1. Overlap: With 30% to 40% overlap, intervis threaded bushes offer almost maximum pull-out resistance, especially in light-alloy parts.
  2. Pull-out strength: intervis threaded bushes are extremely robust, offering pull-out resistance even above the yield strength of an 8.8 screw in light metal applications.
  3. ‍Minimizingweight and space: intervis threaded bushes offer significant weight and space savings, enabling reduced screw dimensions, saving material, space and weight while maintaining high performance requirements.

Intervis® self-tapping socket

Threaded insert - Self-tapping socket - Intervis

INTERVIS® in steel, brass or stainless steel, is a metal bushing with standardized tapping and a suitable external thread. It features a truncation and a slot with cutting edges.

Advantages :

  • No need for pre-tapping
  • INTERVIS® is perfectly anchored, with no play between it and the receiving part
  • Increased safety in use: very high resistance to tearing
  • Eliminates thread wear
