To repair a damaged thread, you'll need a thread insert repair kit containing a variety of useful tools such as twist drills, special taps, insert insertion tools and stainless steel helicoil inserts.

Depending on the nature of the initial problem and the type of thread, different repair methods can be considered. For example, the option of repair kits.

When should thread repair be considered, and with which tools?

The most common causes of thread breakage are as follows:

  • The screw has been tightened too much.
  • The screw has been unscrewed forcibly or incorrectly.
  • The screw has rusted into the thread and must be carefully removed using pliers or a drill.
  • The base material was so soft that it wasn't possible to get a proper screw connection.

In any case, if the thread is damaged, sheared or deformed, it can be repaired with a thread repair kit!

Repair kits for mesh inserts - Free Running

Classic helicoil thread inserts are compatible with UNC, UNF, BSW, BSF G (BSP), BA and NPT threads.

Single-height kits and three-height kits available. From M2 to M42. 

Mixed repair kits for thread inserts - Screw Grip

The threaded insert screw grip offers superior resistance to shock, vibration and movement. Its red color distinguishes it from the others. We recommend its use only where high resistance is required.

Repair kits with thread inserts - Spark plugs

To repair a spark plug thread, it's not necessary to drill a center hole. This is where the HSSG combined drilling and cutting tool comes into play. In a single pass, the hole is enlarged by the nose and the thread is cut with an allowance. The thread insert kits for variegated spark plugs are available in four lengths:

  • M10 x 1.0
  • M12 x 1.25
  • M14 x 1.25
  • M18 x 15

Repair kits with thread inserts - Drain screws

To repair the thread on an oil drain plug, use a twist drill to drill out the damaged thread. Then, if necessary, use a conical cutter to enlarge the hole. 

These elements are combined in our sets of thread inserts for mixed drain plugs available in three lengths: 

  • M12 x 1.5
  • M14 x 1.5
  • M16 x 1.5

Mixed repair kits for thread inserts - Machine Pro

The PRO variegated insert kits contain helicoil in lengths from 1.5 D to 2.5 D, which are perfectly suited to most requirements. 

These kits also include an HSS tapered cutter and a machine installation tool compatible with cordless screwdriver bits. With PRO thread insert kits thread insert kits, you'll be able to screw in your threaded inserts safely and efficiently.

How do I mount a mesh insert?

Our repair thread inserts can be installed either manually or with a cordless screwdriver. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Start by drilling the damaged thread with a twist drill.
  2. Then use a conical cutter to flare the hole.
  3. Use cutting oil to limit heat build-up and keep chips out of the cutting area.
  4. Finally, place your helicoil repair thread.
    The procedure differs depending on whether you are tapping by hand or by machine.

Operation for manual tapping

  • Use the assembly tool for manual assembly.
  • Insert the repair thread insert into the tool so that it is firmly seated in the groove.
  • Apply slight pressure and screw the thread insert into the mounting thread.

Operation for machine tapping

  • First set the locknuts to the desired mounting depth.
  • Screw the repair insert onto the tool and insert it into the mounting thread.
  • Once the locknut is in place, set the machine for counter-clockwise rotation to unscrew the installation tool.

A missing, damaged or re-scotched parcel! It is essential that you record your reservations on the transport receipt and confirm them to us within 48 hours. Please note that valid reservations are as follows: "damaged pallet, open packages, missing parts". If your reservations are not precise, meaningful and complete, we will not be able to process your claim.
